DC Feast Days

DC Feast Days

On November 27, 28, and 29, the Daughters of Charity will celebrate three important events. November 27 marks the Feast of the Miraculous Medal; November 28 marks the Feast Day of St. Catherine Laboure. Catherine Laboure was a Daughter of Charity who, in 1830, witnessed several apparitions of the Virgin Mary at the Daughter of Charity Mother House in Paris. During one of these apparitions Mary instructed Catherine to have a medal struck and described what the medal would look like. Images of the medal can be seen in the photo. The medal quickly became associated with many graces and blessings and has become popularly known as the Miraculous Medal. Catherine Laboure was made a saint in 1947.

On November 29, Daughters of Charity around the world will celebrate the anniversary of the foundation of the Company of the Daughters of Charity. Founded by Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac in 1633, today the Community numbers over 17,000 Sisters worldwide.
