Vincent de Paul: Charity’s Saint
September 27 is the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul. “Vincent de Paul: Charity’s Saint” is a documentary produced by DePaul University on St. Vincent’s life and work. You can watch a short trailer or view the entire film. The film is one hour long but can be viewed in shorter chapters. It’s available in English, French, and Spanish. Yesterday, September 17, was the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg, MD), a 12-hour siege known as the bloodiest day in American history. One of the manuscripts in the Daughters of Charity archives, Notes of the Sisters’ Services in Military Hospitals, 1861-1865, contains an account of the visits of several of the Sisters and the pastor of Emmitsburg’s Catholic Church to the battlefield, some 40 miles southwest of St. Joseph’s Valley.
