We get many requests for records concerning orphans who were cared for at orphanages run by the DCs. We do not have case files on individual orphans, and for most orphanages we do not even have names of children. Many times orphan records end up at Catholic Charities in the diocese or archdiocese where the orphange was located; however there are exceptions.
While researching a recent request we found out that records from St. Vincent Orphan Asylum and St. Rose’s Industrial Home for Girls, both in Washington, DC, are in the Archives at Catholic University of America.
